Iron-containing raw materials

In general, raw iron is extracted from mines in the form of hematite, magnetite, zeolite, limonite and siderite stones. Naturally, iron ore cannot be used in the same way as it is extracted from the mine. Therefore, after extraction through a process in factories, they are processed. After the end of the process related to processing, iron ores are divided into three categories. each of which has its own characteristics.

Direct Reduced Iron (DRI)

Direct reduction iron, also known as sponge iron, is produced from the direct oxidation or reduction of iron ore by reducing gas or carbon. Many ores are suitable for direct recovery. Direct reduction refers to solid-state processes that reduce iron oxides to metallic iron at temperatures below the melting point of iron. Reduced iron gets its name from these processes, an example of which is heating iron ore in a furnace at Above 800 to 1200 degrees Celsius in the presence of a reducing agent of synthesis gas, it is a combination of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The appearance of sponge iron is porous spherical pieces that have a spongy appearance, which is why it is called sponge iron.
